The Beginning

Sumeet and I were introduced through our families. It all started with Sumeet emailing me in the middle of the week. The first time we spoke, to my surprise, it did not feel even for a second that we were talking for the first time. We spoke for over an hour and ended the conversation with a positive note. This led to a beginning of a routine of talking to each other almost every day. As days went by, we started to show signs of likeness towards each other and enjoyed talking and sharing things with each other.

First Date

Sumeet and I decided to meet after few weeks of talking to each other. Sumeet flew down to NY. Sumeet was staying at the Westin, in Times Square where we met and then headed to Lattanzi, an elegant-rustic, family owned Italian Restaurant. Then we walked our way to check out MOMA. To our surprise, we both had mixed feelings on how our first date went at the end of the day. Despite that, we decided to meet again the next day. None of us knew how different Sunday would be from Saturday but we decided to take another chance.

On Sunday, we met at Westin again. Weather that day was perfect – 75 degrees, cool breeze and sunny. We both were more at ease, informal with each other and casual in our attire and attitude. This made a huge difference. We started our day in a very Victorian style with a brunch at Tavern on the Green, at Central Park. Time flew with us chatting without taking a breadth. The charms of Central Park lead us to enjoy a long walk when we talked about any and every random thought that came to our mind. The day flew by and we didn’t realize the amount of time we had spent with each other.

That Sunday was indeed different from Saturday. We could feel a familiar comfort level, which we had established amongst each other during our weeks of talking over the phone. This day was very special for both of us.

Commitment

As time passed by, we began to feel and believe that we both belong together. We then gave our consensus to our parents and sought their permission and blessings.

We were then officially committed to each other, in a small, intimate Indian ceremony “Roka”. The ceremony took place on July 2nd at Sumeet’s place in Virginia. Our immediate family and couple of close friends were there to bless us and be a part of the celebrations.
