Engagement Ceremony

Sumeet and Raashee got formally engaged on September 2nd at The Sterling in NY. It was a memorable night spent with family and friends, full of excitement, fun, color, music, dance, smiles, customs, traditions and affection.

The evening started with friends and family gathering in the banquet hall. Everybody was in a festive mood. Rima, Raashee’s friend welcomed everybody to the engagement party and started with introducing Sumeet. All eyes turned to the door at that time. Sumeet made an entrance with sister Manisha looking very handsome in the royal “Achkan” (an ethnic Indian outfit for men) while the Dhol music played in the background.

Traditional ceremonies began with “Shagan” ceremony, in which Raashee’s family greeted and honored Sumeet and his family. The priest then performed a short Ganesh Puja. Her parents then applied tilak on his forehead, welcoming him to the family and blessed him along with sweets and gifts

Shagan” was then followed by cocktail hour where everyone mingled and enjoyed refreshing drinks. To set the mood, Rima sang the melodious number “Pehla Nasha” dedicating to the couple.

The mood was right; ambience was perfect for Raashee to make her grand entrance. Raashee elegantly dressed on a peach and gold “Lehnga” (a traditional Indian outfit) walked in with her brother Mudit. Certainly all heads turned that moment.

Then Sumeet’s family welcomed and blessed Raashee with gifts and sweets in the “Chunni” ceremony.

Now was the moment which everyone was waiting for, Engagement. The couple then exchanged rings which formally marked the on-start of their new phase of life, committed to each other for all times to come.

To celebrate the moment, couple cut their engagement cake and hit the dance floor with their First Dance as an engaged couple. They both looked stunning while swaying to the tunes of Amando Mio.

Mona, Sumeet's niece did a special dance to congratulate Sumeet and Raashee.

Then the party just rocked with their parents joining them on the dance floor, followed by all other family members and friends. After dinner, DJ took charge. Everyone danced the night off to the beat of bollywood numbers, great Indian all-time hits and of course modern day remixes.

At the end of the night, you could only see beaming faces full of cheer. Raashee and Sumeet considered themselves very lucky to be celebrating this memorable occasion with their beloved family members and friends. They were grateful to everyone for everything they did and their best wishes.
